Australia Day at Oak Hall
It was Australia Day on 26th January, and we took time to enjoy learning more about Australia and its culture. This included the story behind Waltzing Matilda, which even inspired an impromptu singalong!
We also learned about the history of pavlova. An Australian chef is often credited with its creation in the 1930s, but a recipe similar to the modern pavlova appeared in New Zealand in 1929.
Of course, we had to taste them! We enjoyed mini pavlovas with cream and raspberries, plus homemade lamingtons.
We don’t mind who invented them — they’re delicious either way!
